DOVER, Wis. -- The body of a Racine County teen was pulled from a pond in the Town of Dover Wednesday.
Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said the victim was Austin Sanders, a 15-year-old Union Grove student.
"As you can imagine, this is a very big, emotional time for the family and a very tragic situation for the Racine County community, the Sanders family and Austin's many, many friends at Union Grove High School," Schmaling said. "I would ask for a level of privacy for the family, as you can, and the students and friends undoubtedly grieving about his loss as they learn about it."
The sheriff’s dive team recovered the boy after getting reports of a body in the pond in the morning. He was pronounced dead after he was recovered. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
Sheriff Schmaling said the death is not suspicious, but the department isn't ruling out anything, including homicide.
"These are all questions the community wants answers to," Schmaling said. "These are questions his family wants to know, his numerous friends and at this hour, I don't have the answer to that. But as the hours go by, we'll update with that information."
While the investigation started, the victim's mother was arrested for a drug-related crime and bail jumping, who the sheriff said is cooperating with authorities.
