It was a new call for Kenosha County first responders - kangaroo on the loose.
Joey, the 5 year old kangaroo, somehow got out of his enclosure at the Jerry Smith Pumpkin farm and headed out onto the rural county roads.
Firefighters and sheriff’s deputies clearing a call just down the road responded to a call from Somers Fire Chief Carson Wilkinson who saw the marsupial in the road.
“I just looked at it and thought I’m losing my mind… there’s no kangaroos around here” said Wilkinson.
Moments later, Responding Deputy Nicole Sorensen came across Joey.
“I looked up and there he was standing just right on the ditch line…I thought you’re a kangaroo and what do I do?”
Joey was corralled by the sheriff and fire vehicles until his handler could get there to take him back to his enclosure, which has since been retrofitted to keep him safer.
Steve Pulera said “Everyone like a good rescue story.” That they do.
