MEQUON -- Students at Homestead High School were released early Thursday due to a threat, the Mequon-Thiensville School District said.

The district didn't immediately say what type of threat the school received.

"MTSD takes all threats seriously," the district said in a statement early Thursday afternoon. "Local law enforcement officials are conducting an investigation of the threat, including a thorough search of the building."

Due to the length of time required for the search, the district made the decision to cancel classes and after-school activities for the rest of the day.

All Homestead students and staff members are safe, the district says.
