A southeast Wisconsin crime will again be in the national spotlight this year when HBO airs a documentary about a Wauwatosa stabbing involving a group of 12-year-old girls.

An HBO official confirms to TMJ4.com that "Beware the Slenderman will air on the premium cable channel in Fall 2016.

The documentary will premiere at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas in March.

Two 12-year-old Waukesha girls, Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, are accused of luring Payton Leutner into the woods in May 2014 and stabbing her 19 times.

The girls allegedly told investigators they hoped killing Leutner would please Slender Man, a character they had read about in online horror stories.

Shot over 18 months with heartbreaking access to the families of the would-be murderers, the film plunges deep down the rabbit hole of their crime, a Boogeyman and our society’s most impressionable consumers of media.
