Group wants to revitalize city's near west side

MILWAUKEE -- A diverse group of business and community leaders announced plans Tuesday to revitalize Milwaukee's near west side.

The group, Near West Side Partners, wants to raise $5 million over the next three years. They'll use the money to restore and sell both residential and commercial properties.

Investors said they like the group's passion to change the face of the near west side.

"What they are doing is exportable," said Tonit Calaway, the president of The Harley-Davidson Foundation. "It is something that people can copy and something that they can do to build their neighborhoods."

Near West Side Partners said they have already secured $2 million from Harley Davidson and the Milwaukee Urban Strategic Investment Corporation.
