OAK CREEK -- Police are sending out a warning after a Bruce Springsteen impostor tried to swindle cash from a fan in Oak Creek.
According to police, an Oak Creek woman said she started talking to a person on Twitter who said he was Bruce Springsteen.
She gave him her full name and address during the course of their Twitter conversations. Police say the woman became suspicious after he called her asking for money.
"Bruce Springsteen or other celebrities are not going to be calling asking for money," said Oak Creek Police Chief Steve Anderson. "Be smart. If something doesn't feel right, don't give any information out."
Police said this is a recycled scam. It's happened before and resurfaces from time to time.
"The important part is not to divulge any personal information over social media," said Anderson.
The woman told police the fake singer called her several times and sent text messages asking for hundreds of dollars. She never sent the money, instead she called police.
"There's a lot of people out there and their full time job is to scam other people out of their money," said Anderson.
