MANITOWOC -- A race car driver has died in a crash at the Manitowoc Speedway.
Police say the fatal accident happened Wednesday night during an Eastern Wisconsin Stock Cars race at the Manitowoc County Fair.
Lt. Matt Wallander says the 28-year-old man crashed into the infield guardrail. The driver was removed from the wreck through the roof of the car. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The race was one of the last events at the Manitowoc Speedway which will be demolished to clear the way for a Meijer store.
