Driver flees from deputies, crashes on I-94

Crash backs up traffic for miles

A Milwaukee man fleeing from deputies crashed his car along I-94 in Kenosha Wednesday morning.

The accident caused the highway to shut down, backing up traffic for miles.

A deputy with the Racine County Sheriff's Office pulled over a car on I-94 south just before 11 a.m. The car then sped off, eventually crashing near the County KR exit.

  • Authorities say the driver of the car was a 28-year-old man who received non life-threatening injuries in the crash. He was was taken to a local hospital.

    John Kutz who was on his way to a meeting when he witnessed the crash. He said the car flew by him at about 100 miles per hour, and after the crash, deputies approached the car with guns drawn.

  • "It just happened so quick," Kutz said. "It was one of those situations where obviously the police have to make quick decisions and they contained it quickly. They did a great job. You just get out of the way and let them do their job as professionals."

    The man involved in the crash was arrested on a felony warrant from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, and now faces charges of fleeing and eluding a police officer and several traffic violations.
