WALWORTH COUNTY -- The suspect who was shot by law enforcement Thursday night has been identified as 26-year-old Kris Kristl of Lake Geneva.
The incident happened around 7:46 p.m. on County Highway H near Petrie Road in the Town of Geneva.
The Walworth County Sheriff's Office says police originally were investigating a reckless driving complaint when they approached the suspect.
A Walworth County deputy and police officer from Elkhorn Police Department were involved in the situation.
The Walworth County Deputy has been with the Sheriff’s Office for two years, and has a total of six years of law enforcement experience. The Elkhorn Police Officer has been with Elkhorn Police Department for approximately eight years.
"All I can tell is that he was a good man, he was a great father, a great brother, and a great son," Kristl's mother Laurie Kristl says. "His life was taken too soon, he made a few mistakes along the way. It doesn't make him a bad person and he certainly didn't deserve to die for this."
Both officers have been placed on Administrative Duty, which is standard practice with these types of incidents.
No other information has been released on the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation, is continuing as the lead agency in this investigation.
