MILWAUKEE- The countdown to Summerfest is on.  Gates open Wednesday.  It's hard to miss the road construction.  The biggest change for people who don't usually travel downtown will likely be construction on the ramp from Lincoln Memorial Drive.

"It kind of messes up traffic down here," explained Tony Bachiak.

Tony Bachiak works near the grounds and say he's seen a lot of changes.

"The last couple weeks they've been ripping up some of the roads down here trying to get water mains and stuff done," said Bachiak.

Amanda Hardy isn't worried about closed roads or alternative routes.

"No, because I usually don't drive in.  I usually would taken an Uber or Lift, the shuttles from bars in the area," explained Amanda Hardy.

People working at the festival say they'll have to leave extra early because of construction.

"I'll most likely be taking a bus," said Ashley Diggs.

"Obviously there's a lot of growth in downtown Milwaukee, which is great.  That's fantastic.  With that comes some road challenges," said Don Smiley, Summerfest CEO.

Summerfest is working closely with the city to make the ride in as smooth as possible.

"They understand the ramifications of traffic when you have approximately 850,000 people showing up," explained Smiley.

Summerfest officials encourage festival goers to use alternative forms of transportation.  For more information about taking the bus visit: http://www.ridemcts.com/
