Cedarburg's Winter Festival goes on despite heat wave

Cedarburg's popular Winter Festival will continue almost business as usual - except for events tied to the temperature, which is expected to be in the 50s.

While you might expect ice skating and snow flakes at a winter festival, in Cedarburg this weekend the only snow flakes you'll see are plastic and light-up.

"So not really a winter festival, maybe a spring festival," joked BJ Homayouni, the executive director for Festivals of Cedarburg.

She said they've only cancelled a few things, like ice skating, the barrel race, and the snow softball game. Still, she's expecting big crowds.

"You know everyone's just kind of been in the house all this time. It will be really nice to come out. All you probably have to wear is maybe a vest, you know, and you can come out and have a good time," said Homayouni. She said they've added a haywagon to account for more people.

The Cedarburg Lions' Club sponsors a golf tournament for the weekend.

"This is supposed to be almost shirt-sleeve weather, so you just put on a sweater and play golf," said Fred Schmitz, one of the group's members.

Perhaps surprisingly, ice carving will go on this weekend - but Homayouni said they might have to carve a bit faster.
