RACINE -- A warning from Citgo -- check your credit cards.
A spokesman said customers who swiped their cards for gas on September 29 and 30, may have been double charged by accident.
TODAY'S TMJ4 was first tipped off to this issue by a concerned viewer who said she was double charged at a Citgo gas station near Douglas Avenue and Goold street in Racine.
We spoke with the owner of that station, Mitch Wemmert, who said he is just as concerned and wants to learn more.
Wemmert said some of his customers of nearly 30 years have already reached out to him.
"Two customers that I had, yes, and they were both upset, and rightfully so," he said.
A spokesman with Citgo sent us the following statement: "Customers may see duplicate authorizations on September 29th and 30th due to a technical glitch. That issue has been addressed."
What the "glitch" was exactly, has not been answered.
"I don't want to lose my customers over something that is faulty in the credit card system," Wemmert said.
The Better Business Bureau serving Wisconsin offered some tips if this happens to you:
- Keep all of your reciepts for at least one month
- Report the suspicous activity immediately to your bank
- Try to speak to the manager of the business about what happened directly
A Citgo spokesperson is reassuring customers affected that even if they don't realize it, they will be reimbursed for the duplicate charge, "shortly".
