Body pulled from Rock River wearing clothes matching missing man

Posted
JANESVILLE, Wis. - A body was recovered from the Rock River Tuesday morning, Janesville police said.

Police have been searching the river for Dakota R. Giese, 21, who investigators believe might have fallen in the river Saturday evening. He was seen in the river on the west side near the Mineral Point trailhead, police said.

Lt. Terry Sheridan said during a news conference Tuesday morning that the body was wearing clothes matching the description of what Giese was last seen wearing.
At about 7 a.m., a citizen walking over the Racine Street bridge reported seeing a body in the water. Fire and police department crews found the body of a man.  The body was found about a half-mile down river from where Giese was last seen Saturday.

Sheridan said there was no obvious trauma to the body. An autopsy is scheduled Wednesday.

Police can't identify the body until after the autopsy, Sheridan said.

He also said two vehicles pulled from the water Monday afternoon are not believed to have any tie to the body found or Giese's disappearance.
