NEW YORK -- Shopping mall standby Aéropostale, Inc. announced Wednesday it would be closing 113 U.S. stores and all 41 of its Canadian stores as the retailer begins voluntary Chapter 11 proceedings.
So far just one Wisconsin store appears to be affected - the Fond du Lac Forest Mall location confirmed to TODAY'S TMJ4 it would be closing its doors at an unspecified date. That squares with court papers published to Fortune.com, which has a complete list of the affected locations.
"The Company intends to emerge from the Chapter 11 process within the next six months as a standalone enterprise with a smaller store base, increased operating efficiencies and reduced...expenses," the retailer said in a statement.
Aéropostale, Inc. was founded in 1973 in New York City. It currently operates 860 locations.
Other local locations at Brookfield Square in Brookfield, Southridge Mall in Greendale, and the Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets in Kenosha appear to be unaffected.
