A weekend day trip or late night to Chicago will continue to be a little easier for Milwaukee area residents.

Amtrak announced Tuesday that its Saturday late night Hiawatha service between Milwaukee and Chicago and vice-versa will continue until further notice.

The new routes started last May and were only supposed to last through Labor Day weekend.

Train 343 departs Chicago at 11:10 p.m. and Train 344 departs from Milwaukee at 10:40 p.m. on Saturdays.

A Saturday morning train from Milwaukee to Chicago has been replaced by a 6 a.m. Thruway Bus Service.

Amtrak officials say the late Saturday trains have shown higher ridership during a trial period than the early morning trains they replaced.

Around 800,000 people rode the route last year, one of the top 6 Amtrak routes in the country.

Over the past few months, Amtrak has allowed pets and bikes to accompany passengers on the route.
