MILWAUKEE -- Reaction to the news of Sheriff David Clarke's sudden resignation has varied across the political spectrum. One man praising Clarke for his service is Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan.

In a statement posted to Facebook Thursday evening, Donovan thanked Clarke for working with him throughout the years.

"You always answered the call when I contacted your office with a law enforcement issue in my aldermanic district," Donovan said. "I will forever be grateful for your friendship, support, candor and honesty, strong commitment to real law enforcement and dedication to our nation and our brave men and women in blue."

"Thank You, Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr, for nearly 40 years of passionate service to the good residents of Milwaukee County."

Clarke has not said what his post-sheriff plans are, though speculation already abounds he may be about to take a post with the Trump administration.
