Ironically, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore who once claimed to have fostered the technology behind the internet, now has a viral story circulating online about the recent arrest of his daughter.

Karenna Gore was arrested in Boston on Wednesday after protesting the construction of a fracking gas pipeline project, reports the New York Times.

Perhaps even more ironically, social media lit up with questions as to whether or not Karenna Gore actually flew to the environmental protest in her private jet, which if true, would of course have  burned quite a bit of fossil fuel.

Gore and several other demonstrators climbed down into a trench, refused to move for more than two hours, and took to Twitter.

The demonstrators staged a symbolic mass grave scene to oppose the pipeline.

Gore along with other protesters were then arrested after being physically removed from the scene by firefighters.

During a television interview after the arrest, Karenna Gore defended her actions and said, “We wanted to — in the tradition of nonviolent civil disobedience — draw attention and call for [officials] to do the right thing.”
