Our weather is anything but typical, so the same way you'd prepare for the weather is how you should be when it comes to your car, says Wisconsin State Patrol and North Shore Fire Department.
They say having a safety kit in your car for everyday use is a great idea, because you'll never know what you'll need until you need it.
Highway safety officials say you can't go wrong with any of these items:
- Blanket
- Bottled Water& Non-Perishable Snacks
- First Aid kit
- Cell phone charger
- Reflective Clothing and Road Gear
- Portable Phone Charger and Cord
- Jumper Cables
- Flashlight
- Swiss Army/ Multi Kit Knife
Lieutenant Dan Tyke, North Shore Fire Department, says "We call them accidents or we call them being trapped for a reason. It's an accident, not something you expected to happen."
Captain Timothy Carnahan, Wisconsin Southeast Region State Patrol, added "Think about your passengers, you may be ok. But what about the special needs of your child or a dependent adult of some kind?"
Also, making sure you have proper tire pressure and at least a half tank of gas at all times is best.
