Seven-year-old Cameron Gouveia is recovering from a gunshot wound at a local hospital after he was shot while laying on the couch asleep inside his family’s home on Hampton Avenue near 40th Monday night.
His brother Keyon Gouveia says the family is relying on their faith to get them through this difficult time and thankful Camrin wasn’t more seriously injured.
“We’re just happy that he’s alive and doing good” Kenyon said.
Kenyon says the bullet tore through Camrin’s abdomen, requiring surgery. He says his brother didn’t know what hit him at first.
“When he got shot, he woke up and thought somebody threw something at him… then he said it started burning” Kenyon said.
Milwaukee police are still searching for a motive and a suspect in the shooting. It’s unclear if the shot was fired by someone driving by or walking by the home.
