MILWAUKEE - A five-year-old is killed after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.
It happened around 9:45 a.m. Sunday in the 6400 block of West Leon Terrace in Milwaukee.
A family member tells TODAY'S TMJ4, 5-year-old, Rickyia Langham, was crossing the street to head back home so she could get dressed to go to church. The girl was holding her older sister's hand but suddenly let go and ran in the middle of the street.
She was then struck by a driver, who did not stop and continued driving.
“This mother is hurting. This child was in her mother’s hand. She was holding the hand of her child,” said Pastor Radontae Ashford, who is also the Langham’s cousin.
Family wants the driver to turn themselves in.
“We are asking the community at large, if they know anything in regards to this, to just please make a phone call. Have a heart,” said Ashford.
Police forensic units are working to locate the car and chaplains arrived to help support grieving family members.
Once some strength is gathered, family plans to set up a memorial fund for little Rickyia.
“We're just asking you to pray for this family as we go through this trying hour,” said Ashford.
