5 child deaths reported in less than 48 hours in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office said they have investigated the deaths of five children in Milwaukee in less than two days.

The following child deaths are being investigated:

  • A 4-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl were found dead in a house fire Sunday morning. The fire broke out just after 5 a.m. near the intersection of 91st Street and Brown Deer Road. Autopsies are scheduled for Monday.
  • A 2-month-old boy was pronounced dead  Sunday morning at 3:22 a.m., in the 5500 block of N. 42nd Street.  The Medical Examiner’s initial reports indicate the infant was co-sleeping with an adult, and another child.  Autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
  • A 2-month-old girl was pronounced dead on Saturday  at 7:46 a.m., in the 6300 block of N. 91 Street.  The Medical Examiner’s initial reports indicate the infant was co-sleeping with her parents in an adult bed. Autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
  • A  9-month-old boy was pronounced dead on Friday at 10:26 a.m., at St. Luke’s Hospital Emergency Room.  The child was found unresponsive at home in the 1700 block of W. Forest Home Avenue and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards in the Emergency Room.  An autopsy was performed on Saturday and no trauma was found.  Cause of death is pending further toxicology.

The Medical Examiner’s Office said no other information will be released until autopsies are performed.
