WAUKESHA -- A 23-year-old woman was killed in a car accident in Waukesha Thursday night, police say.
The woman was walking near the intersection of Highway 164 and Sunset when she was hit. When police and fire officials arrived at the scene, they located the woman and began trying to save her life.
Neighbors say there are apartments and condos near the intersection. You can often find people walking across the street to the gas station.
"I know there are a lot of young kids that go back and forth. I've even gone back and forth walking through here. I have never known it to be a hazardous spot," says Paul Wienzierl.
The victim was taken to Waukesha Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead. One neighbor say the accident is surprising because a crosswalk was added to the stop lights this summer.
"They have updated and put in more of the crosswalk area in now for people to cross the street better. Supposedly it helped," says John Rossbach.
Police are still investigating exactly where the woman was going before she was killed.
