MILWAUKEE -- Two bodies were found in an alley on Milwaukee's north side Saturday morning.
Police were questioning neighbors near 21st Street and Atkinson Avenue all morning to see if they heard any gunshots.
“At around 8:00 this morning, the police came knocking at the doors asking if we heard anything,” Latorie Rushing said. “We walk up and down these alleys everyday, that's not safe for people's kids or nobody to be over here. [The police] don't know what happened, they don't know who did it.”
Neighbors like Rushing woke up to find police combing through their back alley for evidence. In the middle of the alley sat a red Hyundai that investigators carefully examined for hours. The car, with Texas license plates, was found riddled with bullets.
Milwaukee police said one victim, a 31-year-old man, was discovered in a trash container. The other victim, also a 31-year-old man, was found nearby. Both had been shot several times.
“This is too close to where we live,” said a woman in the Rufus King neighborhood who did not want to be identified.
She did not want share her name because the crime happened just yards from her back door. She said the violence has gotten way out of hand.
“Wherever it could have happened, on the south side on the north side, down the alley from my house, it's just real real crazy. You just want to leave Milwaukee and just raise your kids somewhere else," she said.
