RACINE -- Racine police say a 13-year-old girl has died after she was pulled from the Root River.

Authorities say the teen was playing with her 9-year-old cousin near the river on Friday afternoon when she apparently either jumped in or fell into the river.

The 13-year-old became submerged in the water. Her cousin went to find an adult to call for help.

Police pulled the unresponsive teen from the river. Attempts to revive her failed.

The name of the victim has not been released. Police say there is nothing suspicious but the investigation continues.
