MILWAUKEE -- An 11-year-old girl continues to recuperate after being struck by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday night.
The crash happened at approximately 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of 27th and Burleigh streets.
George Nance works at a convenience store nearby. He says he heard a crushing sound, but the scariest thing was what he saw next.
"It was the little girl," Nance told TODAY'S TMJ4. "She was moving, but she was just laying there. Everybody came to her aid, told her don't move, just lay there. So she just laid there."
Milwaukee Police would not elaborate on where the car was driving and where the girl was biking, but Nance recalled the girl wasn't wearing a helmet.
Still, other parents in the area expressed concern about their kids riding around the neighborhood. The Wisconsin DOT reports that even though children ages 5-14 make up only 15 percent of Wisconsin's population, kids account for over half of all bicycle injuries.
Investigators tell TODAY'S TMJ4 they are pursuing a known suspect.
