Crews respond to fire at a landfill near Johnson Creek

JOHNSON CREEK, Wisc. — Crews responded to a fire at the Deer Track Park Landfill in Jefferson County, along I-94 at Highway 26 near Johnson Creek.

The fire was reported to the Jefferson County Communications Center at 8:47 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17. The Johnson Creek Fire Department was dispatched immediately.

Upon arrival, crews found a significant fire on top of a large hill in the center of the landfill and worked for nearly an hour to contain it to its area of origin.

The fire was extinguished about two hours later. No injuries or property damage were reported.

Personnel from the Deer Track Park Landfill were also on scene and assisted with multiple pieces of heavy equipment.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
