A convicted felon from Black Creek was arrested Sunday after shooting a 10-point buck in Shiocton.

Travis Schroeder, 35, of Black Creek, was charged Monday in Outagamie County court with possession of a firearm by a felon.

Just after 1 p.m. on November 19, the Outagamie County Sheriff's Department and the DNR investigated a trespass complaint on Carpenter Road.

Investigators learned Schroeder, who is a convicted felon for a 2008 Outagamie County burglary, was hunting near the property and had shot a 10-point buck. Convicted felons in Wisconsin are not allowed to own a firearm.

He shot the buck Saturday morning, deputies said. He indicated he shot it with a rifle, according to court documents. He told officers he normally hunts with a crossbow and only had an archery license, not a valid gun/deer license.

Schroeder was arrested and the DNR took custody of both the deer and the rifle.
