A trip to Door County for a wedding ends in tragedy as an Appleton family collided head-on with a wrong way driver in the Town of Green Bay.

Nick Eckes tells TODAY'S TMJ4 sister station NBC26 his grandmother, parents and sister were heading up to Door County for his wedding. They never made it.

According to the Brown County Sheriff's Department, 38-year-old Todd Beyer of Green Bay went the wrong way down an exit ramp on State Highway 57 near Dyckesville.

Deputies say their initial investigation makes it look like he got up to full speed before crashing into a car driven by Nick's sister, Kristen Eckes.

Beyer was airlifted to Aurora Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Law enforcement says he wasn't wearing a seatbelt and they don't know yet if alcohol played a part in the crash.

Kristen and her father Kenneth Eckes were in the front seat of the car. Both of them survived the crash and are still at Aurora.

Nick says Kristen is in a lot of pain, but is doing well. Kenneth is still in the ICU.

Mother Lynn Eckes and grandmother Ila Schabow, who were in the back seat, didn't survive the crash. Deputies say they died at the scene.

The Brown County Sheriff's Department says this crash is still under investigation.
