MILWAUKEE -- A woman driving on a Milwaukee highway has died after she was shot by a child in the back seat.
Officials said the child got a hold of a gun and fired it.
Brandon Glass was going north on Highway 175 when he realized something terrible must have happened in the other direction.
"I saw a blue sedan that had its door open and it was stopped in the middle of the freeway," he said. "I saw a body lying outside of that."
Glass said a lot of people got out of the cars, unsure what to do.
"The entire highway was stopped on the other side," he said.
Glass said no one knew exactly what happened. Passersby saw the kids in the back seat of the car and were worried about them.
When deputies arrived, the woman had no pulse and was not breathing. Officers tried to revive her but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The age and gender of the child were not released.
The relationship between the woman and the child, what type of weapon was used or how the child managed to get a gun and fire it is all unknown at this time.
