MILWAUKEE, WI -- A woman suspected of drunk driving was pulled over only to find her 8-year-old child was on her lap steering the car, police say.
Authorities said 37-year-old Carrie Bernard failed a field sobriety test. She was arrested for what they say is her 3rd suspected DUI.
Police saw the car entering an on-ramp with the child on her lap and stopped the vehicle. Deputies say the boy was crying because he didn't want to go jail.
Bernard has been charged with second degree recklessly endangering safety, OWI (3rd), and operating while revoked. She faces a potential sentence of more than ten years in prison if convicted of all charges.
The boy was turned over to child protective services.
